Pretentious, yes, but I like it too.

An announcement: I was reading some PG Wodehouse, and another book from the 20s called Free Air, and I noticed that they sometimes wrote 'phone, instead of phone, using the apostrophe to acknowledge the abbreviation of telephone. So I shall call this my 'blog. My other blog will still be called a blog. That is all.

  1. In the first Star Wars tie-in novel (the movie novelization, ghostwrit by Alan Dean Foster, the droids are called 'droids.

In Star Wars that has since gone by the wayside, I'd wager because 9/10 the writers now don't know droid is short for "android". In my writing, though, because androids are only one of several kinds of robots, I write, e.g., "assassin 'droid". Writing "'Bots", however, would be too much even for me.

Remember how Ms Dougherty insisted we call quotes "quotations"? Am I the only one who wanted to ask her if she also insisted on "omnibus station" and "taximeter cab"?
